THE ESSENCE OF VILLAGE CHURCH

Village Church is a place for anyone and everyone. We aim to create the type of church where those curious about God can discover more about who Jesus is.

We believe that to live as follower of Jesus, we must first know him personally, have our hearts transformed by Him and then live like He lived on the earth. Our formation into a disciple of Jesus is ongoing and must begin and end with Jesus at the centre.

For us the church isn’t a building or a gathering, but it’s a people — and the part that everyone plays in building, and being, the church is equally important and necessary. We believe that every individual, regardless of their calling or vocation, is a minister of the gospel with a unique God-given purpose to live out on the earth.

With gratitude, peace and the empowering of the Holy Spirit, we partner with God to serve our community with the living gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are contemplative in the formation of our faith, while contemporary in our expression. We embrace the legacy of tradition, yet we seek God for how that looks for current and future generations.

Along our journey, we have identified three foundational pillars that make up the essence of Village Church.

THE SIMPLE GOSPEL OF JESUS

Village Church exists that everyone would find, know and follow Jesus. This is the lens through which we operate, and it keeps our mission simple. He, and He alone, is the source of everything we need. We are led by the living, breathing Word of God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live holy lives. We are diligent with our discipleship and personal spiritual formation journeys, knowing that only through Jesus authentically transforming us, are we then equipped by Him to come alongside others in their own spiritual transformation. We cultivate a place of worship so that we and others can encounter His presence in a collective setting.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

The richness of a village is created by the people within it — people from all backgrounds, cultures, perspectives, ages and stages of life. At Village Church, all are welcome. Together we create a safe, authentic space for every person to navigate their own unique story of knowing Jesus and becoming a disciple of Him. We champion the individual, and we believe that everyone, regardless of their calling or vocation, is a minister of the gospel. Village Church is not about a select few building it — we all carry it, grow it and build it together. We believe that the church isn’t the building, it’s the people. We support and encourage each other, knowing that it takes a village to be the people God has called us to be.

PEACE THAT DEFIES CULTURAL NORMS

In a world that is defined by human success and effort, we are defined by saving grace, made possible only through the powerful work of Jesus. This means we walk in the peace given freely to us — regardless of natural circumstances we may find ourselves in. Through our individual formation experience our desire is to become a non-anxious presence in our community. We practice a life of rest in Christ, rather than striving for personal gain. We have our hopes set on the future and our trust secure in the leading of the Spirit of God. This is us creating a future guided by peace, not circumstances.
